Tongwei Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Chengdu, China) originally started in 1992 in the field of aquaculture and animal feed production, and then consciously expanded its activities towards the photovoltaic (PV) industry from 2006. The company operates along the dual focus of “green agriculture & green energy”: it is a significant player in both animal feed production and the energy industry.

Tongwei is particularly strong in the solar sector in upstream silicon production (high-purity crystalline silicon), cell production and module production — thus operating a complete vertical chain that extends all the way to the “wafer → cell → module” steps. In 2024, according to its own statements, it had an annual cell production capacity of more than 150 GW, and its module production is also among the world's most significant players.

Interestingly, Tongwei's "Fisheries + PV" model is also worth mentioning: projects where solar panels are installed above fish ponds, thus serving both aquaculture and electrical energy production.
